Ecomerit Environmental Certification awarded to Conference Organisers

Presenting the €coMerit certificate An Cathaoirleach, Cllr.  Ossian Smyth commented:

“It is a great privilege to award this €coMerit Environmental Certification to Conference Organisers Ltd, a company which has an Environmental Policy committing it to continually reduce its carbon footprint.Conference Organisers Ltd. has also signed up to ten specific environmental actions including using its purchasing power to influence its suppliers to support the company’s objective of minimising its environmental impact wherever possible.”

On receiving the €coMerit Certification, Philip Byers (Business Development Director) said:

“We are delighted to have become €coMerit Certified and are looking forward to using the programme to help us meet our environmental sustainability goals. As an organisation we are very committed to continuously improving our environmental performance and we plan to green our conferences by choosing to use suppliers and venues with proven environmental credentials. From now on in tender documents we will ask prospective suppliers to state what measures they will adopt to enhance the sustainability of the services or products they supply. We will also encourage existing suppliers to adopt their own environmental improvements and where appropriate become environmentally certified.”

The €coMerit Certificate is valid for three years subject to annual surveillance of Conference Organisers Ltd.’s commitment to meet the criteria of the €coMerit Programme including an ongoing improvement in its environmental performance. The certificate was awarded following approval by a steering committee comprising Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, the three Regional Waste Management Offices, environmental consultancy, €concertive and the Environmental Protection Agency.
